Phero Truong Anh Thang "Fang"Phero Truong Anh Thang "Fang", 47, of Richardson, Texas, passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.
Thang was born on November 20, 1978, in St. Paul, Minnesota, to Le Truong and Thu Nguyen. His life story began even before his birth with an extraordinary journey of perseverance and hope. While Thang was still in his mother's womb, his family fled Vietnam in 1978 aboard his father's fishing boat with 62 people in search of freedom following the Vietnam War. After enduring rough seas, they were rescued by a Singaporean vessel and brought to Singapore. Following repairs to their boat, they continued their journey and arrived in Pulau Tengah, Malaysia, where they lived in a refugee camp for approximately four months. Through the kindness of sponsors in Minnesota, the family was given the opportunity to begin a new life in the United States. Just four days after arriving in Minnesota, Thang was born.
Thang graduated from Centennial High School in 1997 and later attended Brown Institute in Software Development. He began his early working career at a nursing home, where he worked as a pot and pan cleaner, demonstrating the strong work ethic that would define his life. He went on to build a successful career in Information Technology as a programmer. Thang was also exceptionally skilled with his hands. His talent for home renovation and craftsmanship began while helping finish the basement of his parents' home and later grew into a successful hobby of remodeling and flipping houses after moving to Dallas, Texas, in 2010. His final and most meaningful project was renovating the home he shared with his beloved wife, Katie, and their daughter, Emma.
Thang was an avid pickleball and volleyball player, a talented fisherman, and a man of deep faith. He embraced life with enthusiasm, bringing joy and laughter wherever he went. Known for his quick wit and remarkable sense of humor, Thang loved gathering friends and family together. He was truly "the host with the most," creating lasting memories for everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Above all else, Thang cherished his family. He loved his parents deeply and took great pride in ensuring they were cared for. He never missed an opportunity to celebrate the birthdays, milestones, and accomplishments of his nieces, nephews, family members, and friends. His presence brought people together, and his generosity, kindness, and unwavering devotion made him the heart of his family.
On November 11, 2011, Thang met the love of his life, Katie, during a chance encounter at a bar in Uptown Dallas. What began as a simple introduction blossomed into a love story that spanned nearly fifteen years. Together, they attended countless family gatherings, celebrations, and special occasions, always showing up to support the people they loved. Their shared passion for travel led them on memorable adventures throughout North America and Asia. On March 27, 2026, they were married, and although their time as husband and wife was far too short, it was filled with immense love, laughter, and treasured memories. Of all the roles he held in life, Thang's greatest joy and proudest accomplishment was becoming a father. His daughter, Emma, was the light of his life, and he treasured every moment with her. The love he gave her will remain in her heart forever.
Nearly four years ago, Thang was diagnosed with cancer. Through surgeries, chemotherapy, stem cell transplant, radiation treatments, medications, countless emergency room visits and hospital stays, he fought with unwavering strength and determination. He faced every challenge with courage, optimism, and faith. Throughout his journey, he wore the rosary necklace his mother gave him, a symbol of the faith that sustained him until his final breath. Thang was a warrior whose resilience inspired everyone around him.
Thang is survived by his loving wife, Katie, and daughter, Emma; his parents, Le Truong and Thu Nguyen; his brother, Tuan Truong, wife Arlene Velasco, and their son, Aaron Truong; his brother, Trung Truong, wife Mai Truong, and their daughter, Riley Truong; his sister, Loan Phan, husband Jason Phan, and their children, Lauren and Andrew Phan; and his brother, Tien Truong.
